Windsor's recommended pathway to the 90-credit prerequisite

Windsor University School of Medicine suggests this route: take the 41-credit course package above plus 15 more general-education credits at PrereqCourses before you arrive. Windsor then teaches only the science-heavy courses in two biomedical semesters to complete the 90-credit prerequisite.

Before arrival: 15 credits via PrereqCourses, in addition to the 41-credit package

Semester 1 at Windsor

  • BIO301 Biochemistry (5)
  • BIO303 Molecular & Cell Biology I (4)
  • MT305 Medical Terminology (4)
  • Calculus

Semester 2 at Windsor

  • BIO403 Molecular & Cell Biology II (4)
  • MIC403 Microbiology with lab (4)
  • ANAT404 Anatomy with lab (5)
  • PHS405 Physiology (5)

Total: the 41-credit package above, plus 15 credits before arrival via PrereqCourses, plus Windsor's two biomedical semesters, to complete the 90-credit prerequisite. Windsor teaches the semester 1 and semester 2 courses; they are not PrereqCourses courses. Pathway suggested by Windsor University School of Medicine, October 2026. Windsor makes all admission decisions, so confirm your plan with Windsor admissions.

Windsor MD prerequisites and admission requirements

Here is what Windsor University School of Medicine lists for Windsor MD prerequisites and related admission items, summarized from its public pages. Each item links to the source on windsor.edu. WUSOM sets and can change these requirements, so check with Windsor admissions before you apply.

6 buckets

General biology or zoology (8 credits), general or inorganic chemistry (8), organic chemistry or biochemistry (8), physics (8), each with laboratory or computer simulation; English or humanities or social sciences (6); and mathematics, preferably calculus or statistics (3) (WUSOM admission requirements).

90 credits

WUSOM asks for a minimum of 90 undergraduate credit hours (not counting high school) and an undergraduate degree or foreign equivalent from an accredited institution before matriculation (admission requirements, admissions FAQ). See Windsor's recommended pathway to 90 credits.

3.1 GPA

The WUSOM Student Handbook 2025 states an overall minimum GPA of 3.1 in coursework. Confirm the current figure with Windsor admissions, since handbook details can change (Student Handbook 2025).

MCAT

Windsor sources do not all agree on whether the MCAT is required for U.S. applicants. Confirm the current MCAT policy with Windsor admissions (for example Owais@windsor.edu or the contacts on windsor.edu) before you plan around a score.

  • ✓Science prerequisites allow laboratory or computer simulation (WUSOM admission requirements).
  • ✓Rolling MD start terms include January, May, and September (admissions FAQ).
  • ✓Application materials typically include transcripts, two letters of recommendation, a personal essay, and an activities overview (admission requirements).

Summarized from Windsor University School of Medicine public admissions pages and the Student Handbook 2025 in October 2026. Windsor makes all admission decisions and decides whether a specific course meets its requirements. For questions about your application, contact Windsor admissions as listed on windsor.edu.

How it works

Here is how to finish the Windsor MD prerequisites you still need, in four steps. Most applicants only need a subset of the Windsor MD prerequisites listed in the table.

1

Check your transcript against Windsor's list.

Compare the courses you have already taken with the six Windsor MD prerequisite buckets. An advisor can help you work out which courses you still need and in what order.

2

Enroll and pick a start date.

Choose a course from the table above and register on its course page. Courses begin on the 1st of each month.

3

Complete the course online, at your own pace.

Every course is a regular Upper Iowa University section, fully online and self-paced. The science courses include a lab component you complete online.

4

Send your official UIU transcript with your application.

When you finish, order an official UIU transcript for your Windsor application. It shows UIU, the course number, and your grade.

Frequently asked questions

Do online labs count toward Windsor MD prerequisites?

WUSOM's admission requirements list science prerequisites with laboratory or computer simulation (WUSOM admission requirements). Each of the eight science courses on this page carries 4 credits and includes a lab component you complete online. Windsor decides whether a specific course meets its requirements, so confirm with Windsor admissions before you enroll. We will send you the syllabus to share with them.

Which Windsor MD prerequisites do these 11 courses cover?

BIO 135 and BIO 140 cover general biology with labs (8 credits). CHEM 151 and CHEM 152 cover general chemistry with labs (8). CHEM 251 and CHEM 252 cover organic chemistry with labs (8). PHY 115 and PHY 116 cover physics with labs (8). ENG 101 and ENG 102 cover English (6). MATH 220 covers the 3-credit mathematics requirement (statistics). That maps to all six prerequisite buckets WUSOM lists. The separate 90-credit / degree requirement, GPA, MCAT, letters, and essay are not part of this course pack.

How do I reach Windsor's 90-credit prerequisite?

Windsor suggests taking the 41-credit package plus 15 general-education credits at PrereqCourses before arrival: PSY 190 General Psychology, SOC 110 Principles of Sociology, BIO 282 Genetics, BIO 165 Human Biology & Nutrition, and PSY 360 Abnormal Psychology or COMM 200 Interpersonal Communication (3 credits each). Windsor then teaches the science-heavy courses in two biomedical semesters to complete the 90-credit prerequisite. See Windsor's recommended pathway for the full course list, and confirm your plan with Windsor admissions.

Organic chemistry or biochemistry?

WUSOM allows organic chemistry or biochemistry (2 semesters or 8 credit hours, with lab or computer simulation). This page leads with CHEM 251 and CHEM 252 Organic Chemistry I and II with labs, which match that 8-credit lab path. Our biochemistry products (CHEM 330 / CHEM 331) are 3-credit courses without a lab component, so they are better treated as recommended advanced science, not as a full stand-in for the 8-credit organic or biochemistry bucket. Confirm your plan with Windsor admissions.

MATH 220 or MATH 120?

WUSOM prefers calculus or statistics for the 3-credit mathematics requirement. This table defaults to MATH 220 Elementary Statistics. If you prefer calculus, take MATH 120 Calculus I instead (also $675). You only need one of them for the math bucket.

What will my transcript show?

Every course is a regular Upper Iowa University section. UIU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, and your credit appears on an official UIU transcript showing UIU, the course number, and your grade. Every student sits in the same UIU section, whatever pathway they enrolled through.

When can I start, and what does it cost?

Courses for the Windsor MD prerequisites begin on the 1st of each month and are fully online and self-paced. Tuition is $675 for each 3-credit course (English and math) and $695 for each 4-credit course with lab. All 11 courses in the table total 41 credits and $7,585 in tuition. Textbooks and lab materials are purchased separately. Check each course page for current start dates and pricing.

Will Windsor accept these UIU courses for my application?

Only Windsor decides whether a course meets its requirements for Windsor MD prerequisites. Share the syllabus with Windsor admissions before you enroll if you want written confirmation. This page is published by PrereqCourses LLC, an official partner of Windsor University School of Medicine.
