Who UMich’s PharmD is for
College of Pharmacy Ann Arbor admissions requirements describe a traditional 4-year, full-time, in-person PharmD in Ann Arbor. PharmCAS lists about 85 seats and no satellite campuses. Dual degrees exist but are separate; clear the standard prerequisite table first.
A bachelor’s is not required. PharmCAS still expects roughly ≥60 semester hours and ≥28 basic science hours before matriculation. English, two humanities, and two social sciences stay on the published table for all applicants. Related: PharmD degree explained and from pharmacy technician to PharmD.

Course-by-course requirements
Michigan Pharmacy prerequisite courses must come from an accredited U.S. or Canadian university, with at least one year of required pre-pharmacy coursework there. Grade C or higher. No double-counting.
UIU options via PrereqCourses typically cost about $675 (3-credit) or about $695 (4-credit lab). Materials are separate. Courses begin on the 1st of each month. Email admissions about any online lab before you enroll.
Related: the pharmacy chemistry sequence and online pharmacy prerequisites.
Biology sequence (lab not required)
Two semesters or three quarters of introductory biology. Lab is not required (UMich-specific). AP Biology ≥4 may satisfy per published materials.
Candidates: BIO 135 Principles of Biology I and BIO 140 Principles of Biology II. Both include labs; extra lab is fine if the sequence is accepted. VERIFY with mich.pharm.admissions@umich.edu before counting the online sequence.
Biochemistry
One semester or quarter of introductory biochemistry. Lab is not required. Candidate: CHEM 330 Biochemistry I. VERIFY level/topics with admissions if needed. Related: biochemistry for pharmacy school online.
Genetics (science of genetics)
One semester or quarter covering the science of genetics. Evolutionary and population genetics courses do not count.
Primary product: BIO 282 Genetics. VERIFY the BIO 282 syllabus against UMich’s “science of genetics” language before you rely on it. Do not treat BIO 282 as auto-approved.
Human anatomy and human physiology (or combined A&P)
Human anatomy must cover the entire human body (animal anatomy does not count). Physiology must be human only. A combined A&P sequence covering the entire human body is acceptable.
Combined path: BIO 270 Human Anatomy and Physiology I and BIO 275 Human Anatomy and Physiology II. VERIFY that path if your transcript is split oddly, and confirm online-lab acceptance before counting labs.
General chemistry I and II with labs
Full-year general/inorganic chemistry with labs (two semesters or three quarters). AP Chemistry ≥4 may satisfy per published materials.
Eligible: CHEM 151 General Chemistry I and CHEM 152 General Chemistry II. VERIFY online lab acceptance with mich.pharm.admissions@umich.edu before you enroll. Do not claim UIU online labs auto-satisfy this row.
Organic chemistry I and II with labs
Full-year organic chemistry with labs. AP organic chemistry is not accepted. Eligible: CHEM 251 Organic Chemistry I and CHEM 252 Organic Chemistry II. Same email-first rule for online labs.
Microbiology with lab
One semester or quarter with lab (separate lab OK). Eligible after online-lab VERIFY: BIO 210 Microbiology with Lab. Email admissions before counting the online lab.
Physics with lab
One semester or quarter with lab. Algebra- or calculus-based accepted. AP Physics ≥4 may satisfy per published materials. Eligible: PHY 115 Introductory Physics I (algebra-based). Do not overclaim calc-based equivalence. Related: physics and calculus for pharmacy. VERIFY the online lab before enrolling.
Calculus and statistics
One semester or quarter each of college-level calculus and statistics or biostatistics (AP ≥4 may satisfy either). ANOVA, chi-square, and multiple regression content is strongly recommended. Candidates: MATH 120 Calculus I and MATH 220 Elementary Statistics. VERIFY equivalency and topics with admissions if titles look thin.
English, humanities, and social sciences
English composition: one writing-intensive course with critical feedback (AP not accepted). Humanities ×2 (art, literature, language, history); social science ×2 (anthro, econ, poli sci, psych, soc examples). AP ≥4 may cover one of two in each gen-ed block. These rows apply to all applicants, including those with a bachelor’s.
Possible matches (VERIFY with admissions): ENG 101; social science SOC 110, PSY 190, ECON 160, or ECON 161; humanities PHIL 150, PHIL 202, HIST 110, or HIST 111.
Grades, online rules, labs & completion timing
- Grade: C or higher in every prerequisite (prefer letter grades).
- Pass/Fail: PharmCAS allows P/F only when no letter-grade option existed; document the letter-grade equivalent and still meet C or higher.
- Online courses and labs: Varies on PharmCAS for science with labs, science without labs, and non-science. The college page is silent. Email mich.pharm.admissions@umich.edu about your specific online classes before you count them. That is the core UMich PharmD online prerequisites rule.
- Completion timing: Finish before the start of the enrollment term (you may apply with courses in progress). Fall 2027 matriculation is about August 30, 2027, with orientation the week of August 23, 2027 (PharmCAS).
- Recency: No published hard expiration on the live college page or PharmCAS as of Sep 24, 2026. VERIFY with admissions if sciences are old; do not invent a window.

GPA, PCAT & what else Michigan weighs
Minimum GPA: None published. PharmCAS lists overall and prerequisite GPA as n/a. Holistic review still weighs academics, healthcare exposure, leadership, teamwork, communication, resilience, integrity, and impact. Do not invent a floor or quote unverified historical averages.
PCAT: Not required (retired January 2024). Context: is the PCAT still required for pharmacy.
Pharmacy observation: Recommended, not required (PharmCAS). Strong grades, a clear story, employer/supervisor letters, and early timing matter when you plan University of Michigan PharmD GPA and deadlines.
PharmCAS, Kira, letters, interview & 2026-27 dates
Prefer Fall 2027 dates on application process and requirements and the PharmCAS UMichigan survey. VERIFY: re-check October 1, 2026 and March 1, 2027 on pharmacy.umich.edu and PharmCAS the morning you submit.
| Milestone | Date (verified Sep 24, 2026) |

Gap-fill plan: Mapping missing courses
Audit UMich’s full course table. Email mich.pharm.admissions@umich.edu about any online lectures or labs before buying lab courses, then fill eligible gaps. Typical tuition is about $675 (3-credit) or about $695 (4-credit lab); materials are separate. Courses begin on the 1st of each month via the self-paced catalog.
Scenario A: Missing full chem + organic (longest). Often CHEM 151 → CHEM 152 → CHEM 251 → CHEM 252 → CHEM 330, with biology, A&P, micro, genetics, calc, stats, and physics interleaved. Email admissions about every online lab first.
Scenario B: Have gen chem; missing org, biochem, genetics, and physics. Finish CHEM 251 + CHEM 252, then CHEM 330, BIO 282 (science-of-genetics VERIFY), and PHY 115. Email-first for Org and physics labs.
Scenario C: Degreed applicant missing genetics, stats, and/or physics. Prioritize BIO 282, MATH 220, and PHY 115. Still confirm English/humanities/social science rows; UMich does not publish a bachelor’s waiver for those gen eds.
Scenario D: Need English + humanities + social sciences in parallel. Run ENG 101, two humanities, and two social sciences beside science labs. Confirm each gen-ed title with admissions.
Tip: Working adults often stack one lab science and one non-lab course per month. Do not overload online labs while admissions emails are pending. Multi-school lists: advisory service. Neither PrereqCourses nor UIU guarantees UMich acceptance, transfer, or admission.
