BY SUBJECT
Required at the majority of CODA-accredited programs — and directly relevant to infection control, oral microbiology, and sterilization protocol in dental hygiene practice.
Microbiology is uniquely relevant for dental hygiene students because the curriculum maps directly to clinical practice. CODA Standard 2-8b mandates microbiology and immunology content, and the oral microbiome, biofilm management, and infection control protocols in clinical DH education build directly on Microbiology coursework. Many CODA programs treat Microbiology as a near-equal priority to A&P in prerequisite screening.
