If you already hold a bachelor’s degree and are aiming at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing’s Accelerated 15-Month BS, start by mapping NYU Meyers ABSN prerequisites course by course. You need Human Anatomy and Physiology (two courses, or anatomy plus physiology), chemistry with lab, microbiology, nutrition, statistics, and developmental psychology across the lifespan. Grades must be C or better. Most courses need at least 3 semester credits; chemistry needs at least 4 credits with lab.

Quick answer: NYU Meyers’ Accelerated 15-Month BS lists human anatomy and physiology (two courses), chemistry with lab, microbiology, nutrition, statistics, and developmental psychology across the lifespan, with grades of C or better. Chemistry with a lab must be taken in person, while NYU Meyers accepts online prerequisites from accredited schools for the other requirements. PrereqCourses lists UIU courses BIO 270, BIO 275, BIO 210, BIO 165, MATH 220 and EDU 142 for the others, and credit appears on a UIU transcript. PrereqCourses does not guarantee that NYU or any program will accept a given course; final decisions rest with NYU Meyers Admissions.

As of academic year 2022-23 and thereafter, NYU Meyers accepts online prerequisites from accredited schools for every requirement except chemistry with lab. Chemistry with a lab must be taken in person beginning September 2022. The COVID-era window that allowed online chemistry (Spring 2020 through AY 2021-22) does not apply to 2026 applicants. Plan a local campus or hybrid wet-lab chemistry course early.

This guide turns NYU’s published lists into a practical gap-fill plan. Where online coursework is allowed, PrereqCourses.com offers self-paced sections through Upper Iowa University (UIU), accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Credit appears on a UIU transcript. PrereqCourses does not award credit and does not guarantee that NYU or any program will accept a given course. Final decisions rest with NYU Meyers Admissions.

Program snapshot: The Accelerated 15-Month BS is a full-time, four-semester pathway for students who already hold a bachelor’s in another field. Starts are Fall (September) or Spring (January). Official detail for NYU Meyers prerequisite courses lives on NYU’s prerequisite courses page.

Last verified: Sep 16, 2026 (Asia/Jerusalem), against those pages. Policies can change; confirm on nursing.nyu.edu before you enroll or apply.

Who NYU Meyers Accelerated 15-Month is for

This pathway is for career changers and second-degree students with a bachelor’s from an institution accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized institutional accreditor, plus the NYU Meyers accelerated BSN prerequisites listed above. It runs about 15 months across four consecutive full-time semesters (Fall or Spring start) and prepares graduates for NCLEX-RN eligibility.

You do not need a prior nursing degree. Finish every prerequisite before the first day of classes. NYU recommends having at least half done when you apply and may offer conditional admission while remaining courses (and, if needed, the bachelor’s) are in progress. Standardized tests are not required (international applicants should follow NYU’s English-proficiency rules separately).

Course-by-course requirements

Each area below maps to NYU’s content expectations and, where eligible, to self-paced UIU options via PrereqCourses. Typical pricing is about $675 for a 3-credit course and about $695 for a 4-credit lab course; textbooks and lab materials are purchased separately. Courses begin on the 1st of each month.

Anatomy and physiology I and II (or anatomy + physiology)

NYU accepts Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II, or one semester of Human Anatomy plus one semester of Human Physiology. Each course must be at least 3 semester credits. Do not intermix combo types (for example, A&P I plus a standalone Physiology course). Labs are not required for A&P at NYU Meyers; a lab is fine if your course includes one.

Eligible online options through UIU: BIO 270 Human Anatomy and Physiology I and BIO 275 Human Anatomy and Physiology II.

More sequencing context: anatomy and physiology I and II and anatomy and physiology for nursing.

Chemistry with lab (in-person required)

This is the modality rule that most often surprises applicants. NYU states that as of AY 2022-23 and thereafter, all prerequisites may be taken online except chemistry with a lab, which must be taken in person beginning September 2022. Online chemistry was accepted only during the COVID window (Spring 2020, Summer 2020, and academic years 2020-2021 and 2021-2022). For 2026 applicants, plan an in-person (or hybrid with an in-person wet lab) chemistry course at an accredited college or university.

NYU nursing chemistry with lab content rules:

  • At least 4 semester credits including lab
  • General Chemistry I or Inorganic Chemistry is acceptable
  • Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry do not satisfy chemistry
  • General Chemistry II does not replace Chemistry I

Reserve a local community college or university chem-with-lab seat early. Seats near New York fill quickly before Fall and Spring cycles.

PrereqCourses offers CHEM 151 General Chemistry I for programs that accept online chemistry with a virtual lab. CHEM 151 does not satisfy NYU Meyers chemistry (in-person lab required from September 2022 onward). Do not enroll in CHEM 151 expecting NYU credit for this requirement.

Microbiology

At least 3 semester credits; lab not required. Medical Microbiology is acceptable. Accredited online lecture (with or without lab) can fill this gap.

Eligible online option: BIO 210 Microbiology with Lab.

Nutrition

NYU prefers Human Nutrition or Nutrition Science (macros/micros, energy balance, lifespan nutrition). No lab. Culinary or food-service electives may not match; compare the syllabus to NYU’s topic list when unsure.

Eligible online option: BIO 165 Human Biology and Nutrition.

Statistics

At least 3 semester credits; social-science stats OK if they cover NYU’s listed topics. No lab.

Eligible online option: MATH 220 Elementary Statistics.

Developmental psychology across the lifespan

The NYU Meyers developmental psychology prerequisite must cover psychological development across the lifespan. Courses that do not count: Intro Psychology, General Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Child Psychology, and Adult Psychology taken alone.

One lifespan/development candidate through UIU is EDU 142 Human Growth, Development and Guidance. Frame EDU 142 as aligned with NYU’s content expectations, then verify: email nursing.admissions@nyu.edu with the syllabus and ask whether it satisfies Developmental Psychology Across the Lifespan for the Accelerated 15-Month BS. NYU does not provide routine preadmission transcript evaluations; a focused syllabus question reduces risk.

Grades, recency, AP, and where you can take courses

  • Grade: C or better in every prerequisite before you start (floor, not a competitive GPA).
  • Credits: At least 3 each, except chemistry (at least 4 with lab).
  • Recency: Less than 10 years before matriculation.
  • Where: Online and community college OK if the institution meets NYU’s accreditation rules, except chemistry with lab (in person from September 2022 onward).
  • AP: Score 4 or 5 within the last 5 years.
  • Timing: Half completed when applying is recommended; all done before the first class day. Conditional admission can bridge remaining coursework.

GPA and how competitive admissions work

NYU asks for demonstrated overall strong academic performance. The official accelerated and prerequisite pages reviewed here do not publish a numeric minimum GPA. The C-or-better floor is not a competitive target.

Review is holistic: academics (including science grades), the Common App essay (about 400 words / up to 2,500 characters), optional but recommended recommendations (1-2), and related experience. Standardized tests are not required.

Treat third-party GPA cutoffs as unverified until you see them on nursing.nyu.edu. Questions: nursing.admissions@nyu.edu or 212-998-5317.

Application deadlines and cycle tips (2026 applicants)

Start Priority deadline Final deadline
Fall (September) March 1 March 15
Spring (January) September 15 October 15

No applications after the final deadline; incomplete files are not considered. Application fee is $80 (waivers may be available). One Common App essay; 1-2 recommendations are recommended but not required. Send transcripts to NYU Undergraduate Admissions with lead time.

NYU staff do not routinely pre-evaluate transcripts, so keep syllabi for ambiguous titles (lifespan psych, nonstandard chemistry). Apply with at least half of prerequisites done and an in-person chemistry plan locked.

Online prerequisites vs NYU’s chemistry lab rule

  • May be online (accredited college or university): A&P, microbiology, nutrition, statistics, lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Must be in person (beginning September 2022): chemistry with lab.

That is the practical NYU ABSN online prerequisites strategy: self-paced UIU courses for the five eligible areas, plus a separate in-person chemistry plan. A fully online science package from another ABSN school can fail at NYU if chemistry was taken online after the COVID window closed.

PrereqCourses sections are regular UIU courses on a UIU transcript. UIU is HLC-accredited. See the exclusive self-paced courses catalog and the online nursing prerequisites hub.

Gap-fill plan: mapping missing courses

Work backward from your start term. Protect calendar time for in-person chemistry; stack self-paced online courses for everything else NYU allows online.

Scenario A: Bachelor’s done, almost no science prerequisites. Take A&P I then II (BIO 270 / BIO 275); add micro (BIO 210), nutrition (BIO 165), and stats (MATH 220) on monthly starts; verify lifespan psych (EDU 142) with NYU via syllabus email; register for in-person chemistry with lab locally (not online chem).

Scenario B: A&P complete, missing chemistry and lifespan psych. Lock the in-person chemistry seat first, then verify and finish lifespan developmental psychology. Fill leftover nutrition, micro, or stats online in parallel.

Scenario C: Online chemistry completed after September 2022. That course does not meet NYU’s in-person lab rule. Retake chemistry with an in-person lab before matriculation, and keep other prerequisites moving so you can still apply with at least half done.

Typical UIU pricing through PrereqCourses is about $675 (3-credit) or about $695 (4-credit lab); textbooks and lab materials are separate. Multi-school applicants with conflicting lab rules can use the advisory service.

FAQ

Can I apply to NYU Meyers with prerequisites still in progress?

Yes. At least half completed when applying is recommended. Remaining courses (and, if needed, the bachelor’s) can finish under conditional admission; everything must be done before the first class day.
