Requirements vary by program — always verify with your specific school. Most ADN, BSN, and RN-to-BSN programs require most or all of the following.
Required by virtually every ADN and BSN program. Most programs require both English Comp I and II. Develops the academic writing skills essential for nursing documentation and evidence-based practice.
Intro to Psychology is near-universal. Many programs also require a second course (Lifespan or Developmental Psychology). Foundational for therapeutic communication and mental health care.
Required by most BSN programs. Covers social determinants of health, community health concepts, and cultural competency — core to nursing practice.
Increasingly required across all program levels. Essential for evidence-based practice and interpreting clinical research. Required for most RN-to-BSN programs.
Also called Human Growth and Development. Required by most ADN programs. Covers physical, cognitive, and emotional development across the lifespan. May overlap with the Psychology requirement.
Required by many programs. Sits at the intersection of gen ed and science prerequisites. Covers dietary principles and their role in patient health outcomes.
Required by many BSN programs. Covers effective communication with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary care team. Available fully online through UIU.
